Installation Guidelines Cummins 5.9L and 6.7L Engine
-Begin by ensuring the injector bore is free of debris.
-Check that only one (1) copper sealing washer is installed and seats flush with the injector nut.
-The rounded edge of the injector flange is positioned toward the rocker levers.
-The fuel inlet hole on the injector faces the intake side of the engine.
-Lubricate the injector O-ring with clean engine oil.
-Position the injector in the cylinder head with the fuel inlet toward the high-pressure fuel connector.
Using the plastic injector solenoid cap to prevent damage to solenoid terminals, seat the injector into the injector bore.
–Caution: If the injector solenoid cap is not used to install the injector, be careful that no pressure is placed on the solenoid terminals. Solenoid terminals may break off if they are used to push in the injector. In order to ensure full warranty replacement solenoid terminals must be intact and undamaged.
-Bolt down injector flange but do NOT tighten.
NOTE: It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that a new high-pressure fuel connector is used with each new injector. Evidence of high-pressure fuel connector contamination may not be visible. Any evidence of injector contamination will void warranty.
***If unadvised use of old high pressure fuel connector is chosen please follow the following steps***
- Inspect the fuel connector; fuel connector must be free of any burns or deformation around the inlet or outlet sides.
- Check the edge filters for signs of plugging or contamination.
- Check for O-ring tearing or deterioration.
- Inspect the outlet sealing surface of the high-pressure connector for wear, an uneven seating surface, or signs of leakage.
- If any debris or signs of leakage or wear are present in the high-pressure fuel connector it MUST be replaced.
***Caution: Evidence of injector contamination will void warranty.***
-Install the high-pressure fuel connector making sure the end of the high-pressure fuel connector is in the injector inlet port.
-Start the high-pressure fuel connector retaining nut and tighten partially.
Torque Value: 133 inch-pounds (15 Newton-Meters)
*This is not the final torque for the high-pressure fuel connector retaining nut
-Tighten the injector flange bolts.
-Make sure to tighten the flange bolts evenly. Check to make sure the gap between the flange and injector is equally spaced around the injector body.
Torque Value (5.9L):
Torque Value:
Tighten finger-tight and alternate between bolts turning 90 degrees per turn until reaching:
89 in-lb. [10 NM]
Torque Value (6.7L):
Torque Value:
Tighten finger-tight and alternate between bolts turning 90 degrees per turn until reaching:
71 in-lb. [8 NM]
-Connect and tighten solenoid wires.
Torque Value: 13 in-lb. [1.5 NM]
Be sure the solenoid wires cannot make contact with the rocker levers when installed.
-Torque high-pressure connector retaining nut to 50 Newton Meters or 40 Foot Pounds.
Install line onto high pressure connector, but do not overtighten. Overtightening the line will cause connector to back off and cause a no start condition.
